We're a Sydney architecture practice based on the Northern Beaches, designing homes, renovations, multi-residential, commercial projects and small public projects across Sydney's Northern Beaches, Lower North Shore, and greater Sydney.
Led by registered architect and Class 2 NSW Design Practitioner Jerome Cateaux (B.Des, B.Arch, University of Sydney), the practice brings more than 20 years of architectural experience to every project. Before establishing Cateaux Architects in 2021, Jerome spent 14 years at the acclaimed architecture practice CHROFI, where he won multiple national and international awards as project lead and co-headed the practice's Residential & Special Projects sector.
Today, Jerome brings that depth of experience to a boutique architecture studio, working closely with clients, consultants and builders from the earliest stages of design through to construction and completion. The result is carefully considered, finely crafted architecture with a strong focus on quality, detail and longevity.
Whether designing a new home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, renovating an existing house, creating a bespoke interior or developing a small multi-residential or commercial project, our approach is personal, site-specific and hands-on.
Our Design Philosophy
Our architecture is grounded in simplicity, thoughtful materiality, natural light, comfort, and a strong connection to landscape. We believe good design should feel considered but never contrived - spaces that are calm to live in, built to last, and shaped by the site and climate they sit within.
Award-winning experience, boutique attention — Cateaux Architects combines the experience of an award-winning Sydney architect with the personal attention of a boutique practice. Every project receives direct principal involvement, giving clients a close working relationship with Jerome throughout the design and delivery process.
Full-service design — We offer a fully integrated design service, bringing together architecture, interiors and bespoke furniture. By considering every element as part of the same design, we create cohesive spaces that are resolved down to the smallest detail.
Site-led architecture — every design responds to its specific landscape, light and context rather than a house style dropped onto a block.
Craft and construction knowledge — Good architecture needs to work in the real world. With more than two decades of experience delivering finely detailed projects, we understand the relationship between design, documentation and construction. We work closely with consultants and builders to ensure the design translates faithfully from the initial concept through to the finished building.
How We Work With You
We see every project as a genuine collaboration. We start by listening - to how you live, what you need now and what you'll need in years to come - before a single line is drawn. Throughout design and construction, we keep communication clear and direct, work closely with trusted builders and consultants, and stay involved through every stage so the finished home matches the vision we set out together. Whether it's a new build, renovation or interior fit-out, our goal is a smooth process and a result you love living in.
We provide architectural services across:
Residential Architecture — custom new-build homes and architect-designed houses
Renovations and additions — sensitive, well-integrated home renovations
Interiors and bespoke furniture — custom-designed interiors and furniture pieces
Apartments and multi-residential — thoughtful apartments and
small-scale multi-residential developments.
Commercial architecture — small commercial, retail and workplace projects
Small public buildings — civic and community and small-scale public architecture.
We have extensive experience navigating local planning frameworks, development approval pathways through both Development Applications (DA) and Complying Development Certificates (CDC), and construction delivery processes including CLT fabrication.
